What does it look like?

This small passerine, about 17 cm long, has olive-gray plumage with fine pale eyebrows. Its beak, dark on top and pinkish underneath, matches its discreet appearance, perfect for blending into the bushes.

Its song or cry

The Malagasy Brush Warbler produces a soft song, a mix of clicks and simple trills, not very long but melodious. It brightens the mornings within the bird garden, near the restaurant and the lodge, without being intrusive.

An anecdote or fun fact

Unlike many birds, the Malagasy Brush Warbler feeds exclusively on insects. It especially favors caterpillars, snails, and ants, making it perfect for keeping the bushes at Au Bois Vert healthy.

Where and when to see it in our garden?

The Malagasy Brush Warbler is mostly found in dense hedges and undergrowth, early in the morning or late in the afternoon. It can be seen in small, discreet groups near the paths close to the restaurant or at the edge of the lodge.

Why does he love our garden?

Our ornithological garden, with its varied vegetation, provides an ideal habitat for this bird. The shaded and planted areas around the hotel offer it shelter and an abundance of insects, which it particularly favors.

Tips for observing it

Stay quiet and discreet, as this small bird is very wary and easily startled. A pair of binoculars or a 300 mm telephoto lens is enough to observe it in the low bushes.
